He earned his Medical Degree from the School of Medicine of Athens\u00a0University, and two PHDs, from the School of Medicine of Athens University and\u00a0the Department of Experimental Medicine of McGill University.<\/p>\n

Currently, Professor\u00a0 Behrakis is Director of the Institute of Public Health of the American College of Greece, President of the Scientific Committee of European Network for Smoking and\u00a0Tobacco Prevention, member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Chest\u00a0Physicians (ACCP), founder of \u201cGeorge D. Behrakis RESEARCH LAB\u201d of the Hellenic Cancer\u00a0Society, investigator at the Biomedical Research Foundation of Athens Academy and focal\u00a0point of WHO (World Tobacco Organization) for Tobacco Control in Greece.<\/p>\n

Former Associate Professor of respiratory physiology at the University of Athens, former\u00a0Adjunct Associate\u00a0 Professor at Harvard University-School of Public Health and former President of European Network for\u00a0Smoking and Tobacco Prevention, Prof. Behrakis is considered an expert in tobacco control worldwide.<\/p>\n

In the past, Prof. Behrakis has worked on National Health communication and\u00a0Health promotion campaigns to curb smoking in Greece (Projects HEART I- HEART II and\u00a0two ESPA grants). Moreover, he has served as Principal Investigator in several European Projects such as: EUREST,\u00a0DIRECT, PRESICE and TOB-G.<\/p>\n

Currently Professor Behrakis is the coordinator of the \u201cJoint Action on Tobacco Control\u201d, a\u00a0European Commission project for the implementation of the Tobacco Products Directive in\u00a0the European Union.<\/p>\n
